Vehicle thefts are at an all-time high in the US. The first half of 2023 saw a 104% rise in car thefts compared to the same time period back in 2019.

A car is a prized possession for many. The stress of it being stolen and the authorities not being able to recover it is pretty much understandable.

As per NHTSA, you should follow practices like taking your vehicle’s key, locking its doors, parking in well-lit areas, and never leaving valuables inside. But what else can we do to prevent theft in the first place? And if the car is stolen, how do we recover it?

A portable GPS tracker with theft prevention features can be the solution. Invoxia offers a tracker that alerts you in the case of any suspicious movements. A proximity radar can help locate and recover your car at a close range.

The Invoxia cellular GPS tracker supports Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and GPS technology. You can configure it to receive alerts every 2 to 30 minutes while in motion.

With the purchase of the product, you get a 1-year free subscription. After that, you can renew the subscription annually at low prices. No monthly fees.

I tested the tracker to understand its setup, usability, and features. Even with the subscription benefits, the tracker can be on the pricey end, so I wanted to know if it is worth the investment.

Let us start with the article to know how the tracker fared.

About Invoxia

Invoxia is an electronics company founded in 2010. It is headquartered in France. Innovation is at the core of this company as it was the first to introduce a GPS tracker that used the LoRa technology.

Today, the company’s product range includes speakers, audio equipment, GPS trackers, and wearable technology.

Who is The Invoxia Cellular GPS Tracker For?

Who is The Invoxia Cellular GPS Tracker For

If you are worried about your car or bike being stolen, this tracker is for you. You can get alerts if the tracker detects suspicious movement.

If you cannot find your vehicle, you can use the proximity radar and ringer to locate the tracker.

If you want to track a stationary car, it will send you location updates once every 24 hours. If you have a luxury car that you use occasionally, the tracker, with its long battery life of up to 4 months, can help.

5 Important Factors I Tested The Product On

The Invoxia tracker is packed with several features like several connectivity technologies, geofences, history, and real-time updates. But how does the tracker perform? Does it deliver value? Let us find out.

1. Design

Design

Compared to other tracker designs, The Invoxia device is longer length-wise, but it has a sleek design. It has a leather strap attached to it as well. The device dimensions are 4.1x 1.06 x 0.37 inches, weighing about 1.05 ounces.

You will receive a 100 mm charging cable and a quick start guide inside the box. I found the guide pretty disappointing. I recommend you start with the support section on Invoxia’s website.

The device is not waterproof. So if you are placing the tracker in a location where it can get exposed to rain, consider adding the waterproof pouch to your cart.

2. Battery

The Invoxia tracker comes with a lithium-ion 300 mAh battery. It took about 2 hours to get fully charged. This is surely quicker than other trackers that take a minimum of 4 to 6 hours.

The battery is supposed to last between 15 days to 4 months, depending on the update frequency. The less time between updates, the shorter the battery life will be. For example, you can set the frequency rate to 2, 5, 10, or 30 minutes.

The connectivity technology also makes a difference. For example, if you use Bluetooth, the tracker will rely on your smartphone whenever possible to extend battery life. But if the tracker uses GPS, it will consume more battery.

Also, these estimates are based on 2 hours of movement a day. So if you drive for 4 to 5 hours a day, the battery can deplete in 5 to 6 days.

3. Usability

Usability

Once you receive the tracker, charge it using the USB cable in the box. To activate the device, you must download the Invoxia GPS app. Next, you must create an account and pair the tracker and the smartphone using Bluetooth.

For the app to work, it will need access to the location data and Bluetooth. In addition, iOS users must also grant access to push notifications, Face ID, camera, and photo library.

When placing the tracker in the car, ensure it is a few inches away from metal pieces. The device should ideally lay flat with the brand logo facing outwards. If the tracker is enclosed with metal surfaces, its performance will be affected.

If you are using the tracker for your bike, you must use a waterproof pouch.

As I mentioned above, documentation is limited. The features, though, are easy to understand; you may have to spend time exploring the app. Invoxia can do better in terms of documentation and app performance.

4. Features

You can create geofences and receive alerts when your car enters or exits the area. For example, you can set your teen’s school and home as safe zones. So you will get alerts when your teen drives from home and reaches school.

You can look back to see where your car has been over a period of time. By default, on the app, you get options like since today, 3-day, 1-week, 1- month, 6-month or specific dates. You can see when your car was moving and when it was stationary.

You can set anti-theft alerts. So if your vehicle is stationary, and the tracker suddenly is tilted or shaken, it will alert you of suspicious activity. Please note your vehicle needs to be stationary for a minimum of 5 minutes for the alert to work.

5. Performance

Performance

The tracker’s performance depends on the connectivity technology it is using. For example, if it uses Bluetooth, the location update will be as accurate as your smartphone. If it is using Wi-Fi, its accuracy will be in the range of 250 to 300 feet.

Similarly, when it uses GPS technology, the location accuracy can be in the range of 150 to 300 feet.

The tracker does not offer live tracking by default. There are other trackers like Family1st that offer updates every 5 seconds.

The Invoxia cellular GPS tracker instead offers the real-time boost feature. When turned on, you get location updates every 30 seconds. This may come in handy if you are trying to recover your stolen vehicle. The feature automatically turns off after 30 minutes unless you manually extend it.

In terms of street view, the one thing I disliked was that the timestamp updates could clutter the screen, especially if I am taking the same short route multiple times. I had to zoom in quite a bit to understand what was going on.

Overall, the device and app performance are decent for the price and features.

What Sets The Invoxia Cellular GPS Tracker Apart Trom Its Competitors?

The proximity radar feature lets you locate the tracker using your smartphone’s Bluetooth. You can start by going to the last known location of the tracker. Then in the Invoxia GPS app, find the proximity radar feature.

You will be notified when the app detects the tracker in the Bluetooth range. You can then perform a grid search of the area to find the tracker. You also have the option of making the tracker ring.

So this feature is supposed to help if your car is lost or stolen. I cannot attest to its finding a stolen vehicle capability, but it will help you find your vehicle in a parking lot or crowded street.

Another distinguishing feature is that the tracker can interact with other smart devices using IFTTT. So, for example, when your car enters the home geofence, you can program the lights and thermostat inside your home to be turned on.

Should You Purchase The Invoxia Cellular GPS Tracker?

Should You Purchase The Invoxia Cellular GPS Tracker

The GPS tracker by Invoxia is sleek in design and lightweight. Unfortunately, the device is not waterproof, so you must handle it carefully.

It supports Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and GPS. It offers alerts like geofences, significant journeys, and anti-theft.

It is a budget-friendly product that includes a yearly subscription. You do not have to worry about monthly fees. The renewal fees are also on the lower end.

In terms of app and device performance, Invoxia can make certain improvements. Here are some pros and cons to help you make your purchase decision.

Price

The Invoxia Cellular GPS tracker is priced at $129.00. The cost includes a year of subscription as well.

After one year, you will receive an email notification for renewal. As of November 7th, 2022, the revised rates by Invoxia are as follows:

  • 6-month – $29.95
  • 1-year – $49.95
  • 2-year – $79.90

The company plans to introduce plans to let you subscribe for more years at attractive rates.

What I like the best about the pricing structure is that I do not have to worry about monthly payments. Also, these rates are pretty competitive.

The $25 – $30 range typically tends to be the monthly installment rate for other tracker brands. For example, Spytec GPS offers monthly plans at $30.
